Think about public funding for community art and music programs the next time you have a chance to speak to someone in power!

The Dakota Dance Company is a dance company providing performance and choreographic opportunities for South Dakota dancers. As a forum to allow aspiring creators of dance and the young dancers of the community to enhance and develop their talent, we are open to any form or technique with invitations to ballet, tap, belly, native & modern dances. We hope that the company also provides the seed for a thriving professional dance company to stand with the other cultural offerings in the Black Hills.

Founder Paul A. Burns II also serves as the Artistic Director for the group. A graduate from the North Carolina School of the Arts, he received dance scholarships to attend the Joffrey Ballet School and the Houston Ballet Academy.

As a professional dancer, he toured the United States with the New York Theater Ballet, danced in Budapest with the Hungarian State Ballet, and performed with various companies in New York City.

Other professional experiences include three years as an actor, director and set builder in New York; two years as an actor and set builder at Florida Studio Theater in Sarasota, FL; and three summers as an actor, dancer and singer at the Black Hills Playhouse. Paul also wrote, designed and directed his original play "Well" at the Asolo Theater Late Night while in Sarasota.

Recently, he has returned to the Black Hills, where he teaches advanced students and choreographed and performed with the Academy of Dance in their 2007 recital at the Civic Center.
